Veterans Career Connection

Prince George’s County is home to the largest veteran’s population in Maryland, Joint Based Andrews and multiple federal facilities. Prince George’s County also borders multiple military installations and federal facilities located within the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area that employ thousands of military personnel. To assist Prince George’s County’s veterans and service members as they transition from active duty military status to civilian employment, Employ Prince George’s operates the Veterans Career Connection program.

About The Program

The Veterans Career Connection program is a free workforce development program operated by Employ Prince George’s. The program was developed to bridge the gap between Prince George’s County veterans and transitioning service members to workforce development programming and employment opportunities in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area. The goal of the Veterans Career Connection program is to decrease veteran unemployment rates by connecting veterans and transitioning service members to thousands of employment opportunities available throughout the region. Employ Prince George’s operates Veterans Career Connections through funding provided by local businesses, the Prince George’s County government, and the Maryland Department of Labor’s Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.

WHAT WE DO

The Veterans Career Connection Program provides services to veterans, spouses of veterans, and transitioning service members that assist with the transition to civilian employment. The Veterans Career Consultant works with each participant individually to provide one-on-one counseling, military to civilian career transition services, customized professional development assistance, career readiness training, tuition assistance for occupational skills training and various supportive services.

The Veterans Career Consultant also conducts assessments and provides career consultations, career planning, and connections to supportive services to ensure each program participant successfully transitions from military service to civilian employment. The Veterans Career Connection provides access to group trainings customized for veterans, certifications to industry credentials, and civilian licensure needed for employment. In addition to one-on-one services and training, this program provides paid work based learning opportunities to build civilian employment skills, this includes: on-the-job training, apprenticeships and paid work experiences.

JOBS TO FILL
